I waswondering if anybody has a Gerber machete or has had experience with this brand. That old saying "You get what you pay for" keeps ringing in my head thus preventing me from pulling the trigger and buying one. The price points are great. The one pictured was only $19.99 and the bigger ones are only $10 bucks more.

I may just stick to the BG line. One of the complaints about this line of machetes is that the blade is not a full tang. Is the steel of the blade the same?
It looks like it works well, based on my city dweller experiences.
What other comps are out there in the under $50 range that can compete?
Gerber has always made pretty good stuff. I carried one of their fixed blades as part of my military gear for years without complaint. Haven't used the machete, but Gerber is known for quality. Having said that, the good ol' US GI machete is hard to beat for the price. My current machete which has seen a lot of heavy use is Cold Steel's Panga, with a MSRP of $25 including sheath.
I have both the Gator and the Jr. They are ok, but really just heavy duty versions of a regular machete. They seem to be well made and hell bent for tough. After a extended sharpening learning curve, I actually have them cutting fairly well. But I want a parang like Izzy has.

Id like to propose a Condor Golok. The handle is a very nice wood, but is plain which translates into not much grip. Ill be adding some hash marks in it for texture soon.
Anywho... the Condor Golok is pretty bad ass... thick blade all the way to the full tang. Worth the money IMHO.

Hi guys, I saw the 28" Gerber Machete for $19.99 and had to buy it.
I have not tried it out yet but here are some close up photos in case anyone is curious.
The grip is rubbery and feels good but have not tested it when moist to see how slippery it may become.
