It's the air that permeates through the shell that makes them go bad. Sealing the shell fixes this.

Fresh yard eggs do not need any refrigeration unless you wash them. We keep eggs beyond 2 weeks without refrigeration. I have heard that for store bought eggs (they require refrigeration because the government requires all eggs to be washed) you can use mineral oil to seal them.
