best you can do about keeping the mantles from breaking is to keep the shake - rattle - vibrate from the entire lantern - have a factory case with extra cushioning or DIY one .... when I was a kid family camping we went from replacing mantles every weekend to all summer long mantles by cushioning the lantern in a 5 gallon bucket ....
in any case you should be stockpiling mantles - they'll be worth an absolute fortune $$$$$ come SHTF time - think about the hundreds of Coleman lanterns sitting around unprepared & supplyless .... here's a US factory outlet for mantles wholesale: http://www.americanmantle.us/america...-lanterns.aspx
in regard to kerosene and everything related - read about it from the Guru - Miles Stair - he's a fellow prepper ..... http://www.milesstair.com/
Miles has a SHTF supply site also - good info included - worth the visit .... http://www.endtimesreport.com/survival_shop.html
