    Butternut squash

Last year was my first year growing butternut squash and we had several nights of great soup and some baked squash. I have a slightly larger crop this year and was wondering if anyone has experience with canning, freezing or some other way to put it up. If not, I will share with some of the neighbors.

We grow some most every year. But we just keep ours in the basement through the winter. I still have one from last year. We've never tried anything else. They are my favorite squash.

Soups can be canned. Remember all squash is alike and can be made into pies if you want. We just made some zucchini pickles so if they were small you should be able to makes some pickles. I was suspicious at first when my wife wanted to make some squash pickles but they came out crisp and tasty. Just make sure you do not cook them too long.

So if it is predictable and preventable then you better prepare.
