They actually make commercial devices nowadays that don't use needles. Its a plastic device you place over the wound, and tighten with what appear to be zip ties. Really nice devices for in a pinch on your own as you don't have to worry about messing with needles. Suturing is a skill that takes a good bit of time to learn the finesse of, and you may not have access to anesthetics. In a situation where I may not have access to reliable antibiotics, I'm less inclined to want to introduce more risk of infection.

The only problem with these things are they are typically RX only, but there are others available on amazon that use the same concept.
It is, of course, obvious that speed, or height of fall, is not in itself injurious ... but a high rate of change of velocity, such as occurs after a 10 story fall onto concrete, is another matter.

Dang nabit...as many times as I’ve been stapled and sutured, why didn’t I think of that.

Well, i've had suturing instruction. But, while my wife does prettier sutures, I do prettier stapling.....

if you're at home with your full med kit of suture options - something like this isn't the time or place >> you have plenty of antiseptic & some numbing jell go with something more semi-permanent like a couple of stitches or staples ....
