    Harvest Fest at the Farm

For the 4th year running we had Thanksgiving (early for Big J's leave) at the farm showcasing things we had grown all year. Here are a few highlight pictures. I didn't want to post any of people outside ourselves for their privacy, so food will have to do. These are the things just I prepared: 2 turkeys, 1 roast w/trimmings, stuffing, 4 big loaves of Amish twist bread, 6 pies, four types of green beans, candied carrots, stuffing, cranberry sauce, sweet potato souffle, mashed potatoes and mashed hubbard squash. Everything minus the turkeys which were sourced from a local farmer (I haven't been able to keep a turkey alive yet) was made primarily from things raised on the farm, or came out of our pantry/larder. We don't grow grain here, so bread had our eggs, our butter/milk from the goats and was made from wheat ground out of the pantry stores..that sort of thing. This year we had 37 people.

Two turkeys browned for an hour in the oven then moved to the big Proctor Silex Roasters, fell apart when they came out. O'Mooley roast from our Holsteins.

    Plate of goodness

Big J "carving" which really ended up in just placing meat from the roasters into the plans to serve, the turkeys were falling apart. I used an entire bottle of wine injected between the two, stuffed them full of onions/carrots/celery and cooked them real low for 6 hours.

Bread: I have a fantastic Amish bread recipe I turn into everything from donuts to pretzels.

Pies: Pumpkin from our sugar pumpkins, Blackberry from the abundance of wild ones about the farm and Peach from fruit which were bartered to me for compost and I canned in the summer.
