My understanding is that you can dip eggs in melted wax, or coat them with mineral oil to keep them fresh without refrigeration.
It's the air that permeates through the shell that makes them go bad. Sealing the shell fixes this.
No, I haven't tried it yet. Guess I need to.

Fresh yard eggs do not need any refrigeration unless you wash them. We keep eggs beyond 2 weeks without refrigeration. I have heard that for store bought eggs (they require refrigeration because the government requires all eggs to be washed) you can use mineral oil to seal them.

We never wash ours until ready to use them. The chart RJ posted is exactly right. I have done the test myself.
I have kept my eggs well beyond a month and still ate them without issue. I did keep them out of sun light because it will also break down the membrane. As BP/Helo said...dont wash them either.
Be ready now, you won't have that chance later.
Unfortunately, I don't have any sort of regular access to yard fresh eggs.
They come from the store, washed I guess, and refrigerated. Of course, I don't really know how old they are at that point either.
I just need to get out to the country, but I just can't make that happen right now.

They use the Julian calendar method on the carton. The numbered day of the year on the carton is the day the eggs were packaged.
You mean I can find eggs in the yard? LOL! Fresh eggs are so much tastier. Once upon a time we raised our own chickens but the second time the brood was wiped out by a coyote digging under the fence we gave up. Whenever my wife or daughter in law wants to throw "old" eggs out I do the water test. Perhaps I should start coating those store bought eggs with mineral oil!
