    There are several brands of water purification systems out there. Some are a bit pricey. Mine was, but I can literally drink water from a ditch. They range from backpackable size to 5 gallon size. I also have a 250 gallon tank that catches rainwater from my gutters. It is normally used to water the garden but it's there just in case.
