My pear tree is loaded with little baby fruits. I'm looking for ideas for putting them up. Last year I made pear jelly. I have discovered that I don't eat that much Jelly. How many different way's can you use a pear?

One of my favorite Sweet potato or Yam dishes is with apples added, in place of the apples I bet Pears would be good.

We dehydrate a LOT of pears every year, and then vacuum seal them in pint Ball jars. Great for mid winter candy.:D

Can you not just can them in a light syrup? Be like Store bought.

Great for flavour in a slow cooker pork roast.

I've got 3 trees started and looks like 1 of them may bear this year if we don't get a late frost.

Pear chutney? I second the brandy or you could make pearjack. Or pear bombs. Soak fresh pears in everclear for about a month, the use as your heart desires.

I usually can them in a light syrup (those jars are put back for my LTS), you can also put them in the oven in the winter with a little cinnimon, nutmeg, clove and ginger and eat as a side dish with dinner, I also have made it like a jam but a little runny (add spices if you want) and then warm it to put over vanilla ice cream like BP said. The trick is to start adding spices to it....there are lots you can use to change the flavor to give you some variety. You could probably crush and dehydrate to make those fruit pull things. I don't eat them but I know lots of people like them.

Pear Brandy

Ingredients:

1 firm-ripe pear
3 cups (750 ml.) brandy

Directions:
Rinse pear, dry and place in a wide-mouthed decorative glass jar (at least 1 quart). Pour brandy over pear (pear must be covered). Seal airtight. (If seal is rubber or synthetic rubber, cover glass top with plastic wrap to protect seal from alcohol, which can soften it.) Store at least one week or up to one year at room temperature.

Makes 3 cups

Per tablespoon: 37 cal., 0 percent (0 cal.) from fat; 0 g protein; 0 g fat; 0.1 g carbo (0 g fiber); 0 mg sodium; 0 mg chol.

Here's another way... but check your local laws. Some places do not allow distillation.

BP looks like we are supposed to get frost warnings tonight! Hope your trees and all the veggies I just planted make it. I won't be a happy camper if I have to go out and buy plants to replace all the ones I just grew from seed.

When I get my cookbooks unpacked (from kitchen reno) I think there is a recipe I have that you can make pear sauce, like applesauce or pear soup that you can use as a base for other dishes, desserts mostly..

I didn't get to watch the news tonight but since we didn't get frost this morning, I'm bettin we will in the morning. I just hope it's not a hard one. Our biueberries and cherries are kickin ass. Potato's are up and doing good, but still tender.

Too much and too large to cover it all. I do need to build me some type of frame work and vet some huge tarps to cover the blueberries with till they get larger.

Check out a company called Grower's Supply. They sell to commercial growers and have really good deals on a variety of covers.
