Yeah those are cool. Been wanting to get into FPV, but the cost is kind of high. The short range ones are cheap enough, but the ones that can go more than 100 yards are expensive.

Looks like a LOT of fun, and money... Ill stick to reloading, but... Id like to get a drone some time for arial videography, now THAT would be an awesome tool at the range!!

WoW!! this shit blows me away!

I can see multiple uses. scouting game, recon, fun...

I really see this as a useful tool. and a fun toy combined.

Very cool!...

Personally, I would like to hear about the carrying capacities of these things. it is great to have a camera watching, but it would be awesome to drop napalm, gas, acid, grenades, tobacco sauce, or whatever...

imo

Depends on the size and how much you want to spend sniper. The small ones barely carry a camera, but the bigger ones can carry a good load.

Solenoids can be activated to release payloads. It can be done.

Ive got 3 drones myself, and while I would love to brag about my flying prowess... im not all that. I started cheap, got the basics of it down, and went from 0 to full retard pretty fast. The plus side about them, they are pretty quiet and have camera capability. The downside, the farther out you venture and want to maintain camera FPV capability, the more you are going to spend. Great for recon, spotting targets, and if you can get them high enough, you can barely spot them in the air much less located them if you dont know they are there. Fun, hell yea... expensive... OH HELL YEA.

My son is a film maker and they have nice ones. They used to have to hire helicopters for some of their work, but now most is done with drones. They are amazing how fast, high, and how far they will go...like out of sight, so they use monitors. If they get too far out, the GPS takes over and it flies back to starting point and lands. :)

My buddy has one that cost over 100K. It will fly for 45 minutes and has a range of 5 miles. He uses it for video thermal/and regular videos of the chemical plants around here.

OK I have found the start point for this. If you have a smart phone you have the controls. It has a short flight life, camera and propellers can be bought. When I have a moment it is on my to get list.

What are your thoughts?

For that much money plus what you would have to drop on the camera and other stuff I would rather get a dedicated one like this.

http://www.banggood.com/WLtoys-V666-5_8G-FPV-6-Axis-RC-Quadcopter-With-HD-Camera-Monitor-RTF-p-944001.html

The one I am currently looking at is

http://www.banggood.com/WLtoys-V393A-Headless-Mode-5_8G-FPV-RC-Quadcopter-With-720P-Camera-p-970234.html

Has the dedicated video and screen, 300m distance, long life brushless motors and upwards of 12 min air time.

And ignore the name of the website. No idea why the heck its called that but its not porn I swear.

I have a good friend who has a few of these. Hes getting into the video bhsiness, doing air videos for companies, tv, etc.
First, good enough ones to do anything reliable are quite expensive.
Second, they are much more difficult to fly well than they appear. He has spent quite a bit of time on it, at least a year in his off time and weekends, and is still practicing.
Third, the cheap ones are much more limited by outside factors. Like wind. Only his most expensive one, which he still rarely takes up as he doesnt yet feel that comfortable, will buck even a 20mph wind. And there is more wind higher up than we feel on the ground.
Fourth, there are a lot of regulations on these, and its changing constantly.
Fwiw, he actually built his.

Drones are cool. I'm trying to get my nephew to buy the one he has been looking at, its about $1000 to start. I'm think we should get in now before there are too many restrictions. These things are now everywhere. Out here on the left coast out Borate bombers fighting fires have been called off numerous times due to drones being in their AO. The legislature is looking at allowing fire and law to take them out with no liability, they are getting that prevalent.
